    The Banker

The Banker looked at me with a grin.
I said, "I need money."  He said, "Come on in.
In what amount would you like the loan?"
I said, "One hundred thousand."  He moaned.
I said, "With what you can do with that in a day
is taking a lifetime for me to pay.
My railroads and acres, my family and friends.
It always continues.  My debts never end.
SO to put it in large sums is my only way,
of getting within reach of maybe, someday,
regaining my strength, fortune and fame,
and being a winner in Life's daily game."

He said, "You sound reasonable, that's logice to me.
    But, we're only playing "MONOPOLY."

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
