    Poet vs Painter

The Poet is an artist using words instead of paint to make a portrait.  Her pen is the brush as she dabs a thought here and there.  She inserts colorful descriptions to her art, giving the feeling that you are there as she puts her words to the paper.  She calms the soul with a stroke of her hand as a painting comes to life in the minds of those who read her work.

The difference between the poet and the painter, though, is that the poet is not satisfied that you like her work, but that you understand it.  Without understanding, it is just scribble on a blank page.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
