    Living Will

I have eyes that I may see
the wonders of the world all around me.
I have strong bones that hold others' hands.
My muscles do what my mind commands.
My heart beats strong, pumping good blood     through my veins.
My lungs are clear, and I have a smart brain.

But if a crisis comes along and I am taken from this life.
I wish it made known, now and then,
how I can relieve another's strife.

Let them see their "first" sunrise.
    - I will gladly give my eyes.
And when a loved one comes near
    - give them strength to hug those so dear.
Extend the lives of those who are young.
    - keep them breathing using my lungs.
I have lived and loved, now with my last breath,
I ask you to keep my heart beating after death.
Don't let it be said, "she's lived a good life"
until I have relieved anothers strife.
I have my donors' card, please see my wishes done.
Make my one life count for something...
    - Keep other lives "living" on.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
