starved

Starved for attention
okay I’ll buy it
Here’s  a cup of sarcasm
To wash down your ego
And a piece of humble pie
To take when you go

Don’t fill up on bologna
Fed to you from books
Here’s a plate of life
Starring your family as the cooks
Although it may seem to be
None of these come with out a fee
So when do you plan to pay?
Tomorrow?
Today?

Will you bargain with your life
This great cost
for validation on ice
You leave with a canteen of respect
hanging at your side
And  a piece of pity
You tried to hide
But when it all comes down
Rest  a shore
You will  staved  once more

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
