    self control

I am my own worst enemy.
took my whole life and more to see it.
    blame is put on circumstance,
    this and that and others.
    used like tools to justify,
    weaknesses and faults.
    looking in the mirror,
    oh how I hate reflections.

    what do they see?
    looking past or deep inside?
I stare back at all of it,
    do they see like me?
    how we co-exist.
    how do we co-exist?
    a race, or a species,
    society,
    culture.
    so much alike,
    so much to learn,
    yet all alone we suffer.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
