    Poem Commentary

The poem is the culmination of the history in America and how it has changed throughout time and mortal men who only speak but do not act.

"When words speak louder than actions"

Their has been a history of deceit in our country

Mortal men refuse to live up to the notion of land of the free

And home of the brave our founding fathers owned slaves

Generation after generation racial tension seemed unbearable

A man named Lincoln would be considered the savior of the human race

Indoctrinating biblical scriptures in his inaugural address

Contrary to popular belief the man was not religious, in fact

Christianity was used as a tool to persuade the general public

If actions speak louder than words well the following stanza is absurd

The suspension of habeas corpus is a violation of our due process law

Going to war under false premises is unconstitutional

Men who embody these characteristics is politics as usual

A century would pass and all men remained unequal

MLK leader of the civil rights would lead a non-violent protest

Down capitol hill in which a dream unfulfilled merit’s a sequel

Now the dream has been achieved but will reality set in?

Barack Obama has spoken words of hope and change

A financial crisis, healthcare insurance, war in Iraq where shall he begin?

Ancestors of past civilizations shed blood, sweat and tears

Many picked cotton and others fell victim to the wrath of the whip

Permanent scars that will not heal but never let us fear

Education should be highly valued and victimization has meet its end

1776 through 2009 has been a culmination to the events that have unfold

Whether we break from the past or live as friends that story remains untold

Lets exercise the words we speak into action and delivery us from danger

Our forbearers envisioned a land of the free where citizens would have inalienable rights

The time has come to see one another as our brethren rather than a distant stranger

Wow, this is great! I had a thought a few days ago of writing something similar... but the words just weren't coming to me! I'm glad you found the words to say what many of us were thinking.

Beautiful! Insightful! Full of truth! I love it! An amazing piece to cherish, to study, and to kneel down and pray. It is a true blessing to be an american these days, yet, we forget sometimes where it all begin and where we would like to be. You have manage to create a magnificent piece of TRUTH!

Blessed are those who seek refuge in the comfort of their words. Wow I actually did not feel the poem was that good, lol. Thanks for reassuring me that I'm doing the right thing. To be honest I'm never satisfied with any poem I write. But their are those as yourself who are inspirational by nature. Thank you for the voke of confidance.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
