My dad, no one can fill your shoes
I always wanted to marry a man
That compares to the one I fan
You were more than a father figure
Who was always available who was always there
you cared and ached when my sisters and I ached
you would be sleepless when we nauseated
and I remember when you gave me a sip of brandy
to kick the nausea to the curb; to settle my tummy
you would do anything to make us happy
I wouldn’t ask for another dad consider myself lucky
And with my young sisters I have a flash back
When you put them in your lap and feed them their snack
Even after returning from long day at work
You wouldn’t be tired to pick my baby sister and rock
you made sure the baby was clean and dry
Before step out the bedroom to the balcony
To let my mom get some sleep you would lose yours
Always thoughtful for others to please
I am here to thank you, your deeds to praise
You taught me morals so that I keep my faith
when it comes to us, the sky is the limit
you are pleased to do; willing to submit
I owe it to you my father, my hero my role model
I hold you in high esteem; I put you on a pedestal
You used to say if someone gives you a horse don’t check its teeth
For if you knew it is old, all your interest you lose
Then I give you my poem though it is so lame
I put it in black and white, I took my ample time
To tell you that I travelled, I lived, I have been around
You need an assurance to be reminded
one who could fill your shoes has always been hard to find
