better than a dream

    better than a dream

He is my pot of gold

    A treasure to hold

    Neither silver nor lead

With time he does not fade

He is my lily on a field

    Stands out from a crowd

His heart is big and warm

Each time he takes me by a storm

In his sleeve he wears  his heart

    His emotion is always right

    He was my puppy

    I was his kitten

    When we were just ten

We knew each other before we were born

We were made of the same fiber

    Precious childhood to share

He is better than a dream

I don’t want to wake up from

His wholeness is greater than the sum

Of the parts given by his mom

In pursuit of my dream I found him

I lost him when I woke up

He was no more in my arms

Though I am not part of his happiness

I don’t love him any less.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
