Poem Commentary

Thoughts For Christmas.

"Melancholy Time Of year"

It’s that melancholy time of year

Thoughts consumed amidst festive cheer;

Dulcet sound of choir’s singing

To the distant chime of sleigh bells ringing.

As snowflakes fall in the chilled night air

Excited children are everywhere;

Trying to sleep, tucked in their beds,

Eagerly awaiting the day ahead.

What about the ones who’ll cry,

As they open their eyes to question why?

Santa didn’t leave a gift...

Despite them writing, a simple list!

As dawn breaks on Christmas morn’

The day Jesus, our saviour was born...

Take a moment to understand,

The folk who yearn to hold a hand.

Innocent tears that will go unheard;

They won’t taste a yuletide bird...

The elderly ones left all alone

Without someone, to even phone.

Dreams get lost along the way

And aspirations go astray...

For some life just isn’t fair

And people around, seem not to care.

So, at this melancholy time of year

Take time out from your festive cheer,

Say a prayer for those in need

For they're the ones...

With hearts that bleed.

i love this poem it really is great!

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
