Poem Commentary

Depression associated with chronic illness is sometimes hard to bear... challenging the concept of happiness when in pain.

Happiness

Happiness

Is happiness a state of mind,
An existence, just too hard to find.

 A yearning for a brighter day,
A glimmer of hope to flicker my way.

 The vast expanse of clear blue sky,
Ignites in me, a desire to fly...

 Away from all encompassing grief,
To a tranquil place of cool relief.

 Where angels sing their sweetest song,
High above the maddening throng.

 I'll sit upon a fluffy cloud,
And wear the most exquisite shroud.

 Maybe, then... When I'm at rest,
Existence will be... A joyous fest,

 Maybe, when... My life is done;
The quest for happiness will be won.
