    Battle

Why does it feel as if we are at battle?
Doing what we must do holds our worlds apart
That no strength within is good enough
It all seems to boil over in the hours between

When you and I are the only ones
    That seems to be
    We are never alone

There are others that love us
    Yet torn we are between
    Your soul and mine
Torn between the passion of nothingness

Doing what we must do holds our worlds apart
That no strength within is good enough
    Pulled through dreams
    Together we are
    No one will ever understand

Is it a battle within each of us
Or one we fight together against others
    But it’s a battle between
    That holds us

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
