Ancient Dance
There was a dance that I once knew. Many, once, did know it too.Sadly mem'ry there has left, we no more dance with motions deft.
The tune was slow and boasted dole, and so the dance was from the soul.
It flowed like water, slipped like ice, jumped like kittens chasing mice.
In this style we moved along, as we danced amid the song
That crackled like the flames we lit, that 'round we danced and masses fit.
This recollection of my thought has pushed along like horses trot.
I remember how it seemed, as round the fire our eyes they gleamed,
It seemed that life was perfect then, but sadly cannot be again.
But there is hope amid the mass of clashing steel and ringing brass,
When you wonder why the Lord allowed the man to make the sword;
We were made for freedom's sake, and nothing from that sake can take.
The Lord allows what He allows, and He endows what He endows,
So therefore let us count our sheep, or better, blessings, 'fore we sleep.
As I danced around the fire, singing with the lords and sires,
Peace we had, a blessing there, so remember this with care.
