    Americans

What it is or what it does or where it’s gotten us,
who we are and what I am and whom I’ve got to trust,
and where you have been leading me through times that I’m subdued,
and how I’ve felt and what we’ve done when it’s all fallen through
Who you are and what you think and what it means to me,
how it hurts or revelates when it gets close to see,
who it touches where it spreads what it affects and who is dead,
the ones that are still alive just wish that they could hide
Not like any here today have time or care to stand and say
where the rift is pinned all wrong,
where the train is going off along the tracks the dimes we lay
to flatten our wholes lives away and drift off to another hole
to hide deny and lend a door that closes in and locks it shut
the way we always close it but
to wish it open is to lie
to wish it open is to die

We all sit here in fetal stakes and lend perceptions into fate
as long as it don’t change a thing,
as long as it means nothing.

We all sit here sip our drinks and eat our food and numb our thinks
me thinks it’s time to get some drinks and watch some more t.v.

We all sit here kill ourselves and hate each other too,
enough to do the things we do
then turn our backs and run askew,
we walk we talk to ghosts and play and pray with frays and fakes
we admonish that we set the stakes
say still that we don’t make mistakes,
and yes we know what makes and breaks the water flow at night
and the knowledge that we hold makes all the ruling courts all right
we know it all so well in fact that we choose to let most die intact,
and ones that don’t die from the war we don’t even know we’re fighting for
oh you and I are Americans wrapped up in all these shenanigans.
You hate me for the truth I see,
    you hate me for insanity
I hate the world for its sanity
    just another word for vanity
You hate me for the wondrous me
the one that opens up to see
the one that tries to win against what’s wrong with jumping off the fence
Just wash it all away I can walk away I know you can and we can just be Americans and you can just be you.
Just waste away and gain some weight just smoke until you meet your fate just pretend that I don’t sense I make, you go ahead and go.
And I will flower blossom bloom, flower hiding in the moon and I will know and I will grow and you will die away.

damn you have a wonderful way with words missy! I love this, and it relates a lot to many of my poems in the message content. Everyone thinks they know the right way to do shit (the general sanity in public eye, vanity in our eye), and they make the rules based off this irrelevance. This is similar in its message to both poems you read of mine, because they are both about knowing your limits and just making yourself better by raising those limits. Im glad there are other insane people out ther

Poetry comes nearer to vital truth than history.
