Poem Commentary

ONE OF THE GREATEST POEMS IN THE HISTORY OF MANKIND

WHAT STRANGE NEW WORLD

I'M LOST IN MY GHOSTS SHADOW, AND WHEN I TRY TO LEAVE I FIND MYSELF TRAPPED IN HEAVENS NIGHT, ENTERING A WITCH'S DREAM. CRYING OUT CLOUDS AND LICKING THE SUN, I SWALLOW FIRE.

AS I WATCH MY BLOOD TURN TO DUST, I WITNESS THE DEATH OF A VIRGIN, AS SHE RESURRECTS HERSELF BECOMING A DEFACING ANGEL TRYING TO KILL GOD FOR HER INNOCENCE. I SIT HERE IN THE DARK TALKING TO A FRIEND WHO CONSIDERS HIMSELF SATAN....... I CONSIDER HIM, ME.

A poem begins as a lump in the throat, a sense of wrong, a homesickness, a lovesickness. It finds the thought and the thought finds the words.

Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
