    The Wedding Poem

    Today is your day,
The day you say "I do."
    It's nice to know,
I have two great friends like you.
I could see from the start,
    That you would be together,
    And now I know,
    That you'll never part.
    The day is set,
    The gown is bought.
    There is something,
    That I've always thought.
I saw it in your eyes,
What kind of love will rise,
    And that you two,
    Will be together,
For the rest of your lives.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
