    The struggle

The surface only tells one story
But underneath there's more to say
The surface only Speaks of glory
But underneath is how well pay

The surface wears the smiles and bows
But underneath the ache will spread
The surface makes sure everyone knows
But underneath are the lies in the web

    The surface acts against salvation
    But underneath it rages war
    The Surface wants self preservation
But underneath knows that there's more

The surface doesn't want to struggle
    But underneath knows nothing else
The surface lives off goods and riches
But underneath there's no such wealth

The surface will plant seeds in a bed of thorns
But underneath will be choked out
The surface doesn't show its true horns
But underneath there is no doubt

very well written. in the first stanza should it be how we'll pay not well? just curious and not sure if it was a typo or not I only say this because I know I would like any errors in my work pointed out so I could fix it. this piece is very deep I enjoyed it. What I took from it was a struggle with inner demons. showing the world a different person on the surface. If this was the intent; you may enjoy my poem "all dressed up" I will look forward to reading more of your work.

It sounds to me like the surface is for the blind and underneath is for the real. I enjoyed this and it is poems like this that inspires my soul, music, and poetry. Keep me on my toes and stay true. Bless!

beautiful truth there is no good in us all in ourselves

The true philosopher and the true poet are one, and a beauty, which is truth, and a truth, which is beauty, is the aim of both.

Ralph Waldo Emerson, American Poet (1803-1882)
