THE STAIRWAY

THE STAIRWAY

I find myself standing
in the middle of a stairway
spiraling ever so perfectly
I can go either way

As I look downward I face an abyss
but looking upward I'm drawn to the mist
I stop for a moment to ponder
then start climbing the spiral again

The more I climb
the more the stairs wind
up to heaven's gates
where my destiny awaits

Some steps are missing
others cracked and worn
but at the end of this stairway
I'll get my reward

So as I keep climbing
each step make with love
eventually I'll get there
to heaven up above

Thank you so much

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
