The Lake
Two old men, fishing by the lake, grins frozen in time.
No cares about the falling mist, or the cool breeze.
Bright eyes fueled by their newest catch.
A fishing line is caught being cast,
and a little boy trying to hand them a sandwich.
Just two old souls, together with the lake,
and a tag along grandson.
As they say, “life happens.”
but the two men never changed.
They look up at the falling rain, and shiver from the breeze.
The fishing pole gripped tight in his hand.
Smiles grow larger as the boy picks up the other pole.
The pair of old men we like that forever.
Each had a world of anxiety and confusion,
Both of them aching for a better life- for their families.
Each of them enshrined in that worn photograph.
