Free
We were together when the sun went down.
I remember the sound of your guitar.
I remember us walking through the town,
following nothing but that one bright star.
We ignored the stares and focused on us.
The night was quiet but your guitar was loud.
We didn't care that we had missed our bus,
or that the moon was covered by a cloud.
Words lingered silent, waiting on my lips.
As we looked at the stars and said a prayer,
I reached for the moon with my fingertips.
Though they grazed only the quiet, dead air.
As we sat on the branch of an old tree
we realized now, we're finally free. ♥
