    The Inside Out

They say that what you see is what you get,
But I know that it's not true.
I bury my sadness inside so deep,
Though it shows to just a few.

They give me pills and lock me up so tight,
    Trying to do nothing more
Hoping to help me; save me from myself,
But there's nothing in my core.

So there is no danger to save me from,
No reason to keep me here.
I find that the way they try to stop me
Pushes me the way they fear.

They say that what you see is what you get,
But I know that it's not true.
    I bury my sadness inside so deep;
Though some might catch a quick view.

They are the few, the silent observers,
And although they try in vain,
The troubles they go to, trying to help,
    Just starts this cycle again.
