    Poem Commentary

    I drew the picture, and it's called The True Sacrifice of War...and yes, it's different than the ultimite sacrifice, because the ultimite sacrifice is giving one's own life, the true sacrifice is giving someone else up.

    A Boy's Loss

    Staring in his eyes you can’t help but wonder;

    Who on earth has been taken from him?

    Was it his mother, his father, an uncle or aunt?

    Was it his brother or sister or a really close friend?

    His chin is puckered to stop him from sobbing,

    But it can’t dam up the hot rivers of sorrow.

    The tears in his eyes shine with his loss,

    And the streaks are still fresh upon his cheek.

    The soldier looks at this child, pain in his eyes

    As he delivers the news that will shatter his life.

    The boy stands alone, no family near by –

    Perhaps they’re standing just out of sight.

    I don’t know, I’ve never met him,

    So I can only imagine his devastation.
