    SLUT ROOSTER

    The Slut Rooster
    staggers through the straw
    swaggers down a path
    of broken eggs
    The Slut Rooster
    has a squinty eye
and the soul of a dog
    He hits on every hen
    never mind the crushed shells
    beneath his scrabbling feet
    Slut Rooster wants it all
    Isn’t he the bad man?
Isn’t he a force of nature?
Doesn’t he have an inherited crown?
    Isn’t he the nasty king?
    Slut Rooster opens his beak
    and a shriek of horror
crows out and wakes the dead
    slaughtered in wars
    in the name of
    “me”– number one
