ROSE LIGHT
On the Urs of Rumi
_______________________
The candle cast light on the rose
and the red of the rose ate the light
and turned into a lamp
Don’t turn your face from me
Don’t turn your face from me
There is a daf being beaten
And a woman’s voice wailing
a pitched plaint in the air of suffering
up to the roof
where the voice is soothed by the embrace
of the night skies’ cool embrace
Don’t turn your face from me
Don’t turn your face from me
