Shattered

Just when it starts
that overwhelming joy
the relief of finding your face in the crowd
after searching for so long
it's true it comes when you least expect
and now just when I've found it
drawn in close
let my guard down
let myself fall
so deep in love
after only a few months
you are all I see now

I share your pain
for agree it must be done
or so we tell ourselves
it was just not meant to be
but all the while asking why
why did this happen
for you and me
why were we shown such love
to just be torn apart
by physically both walking away
like it never happened
if only another time, another place

But soon just friends we'll be
telling each other it won't be easy
we knew from the start
reassuring each other its what we both want
I fear we'll blame each other
and what we had will be long forgotten
losing something
I never even had
I thought I was lost before
but nothing can compare
to my aching now
yet I'd do it again
In a (Broken) Heartbeat
