Shake the dust off your Bible

You work hard for your money
    It's not a lot honey
But you give me all you can
    In my eyes
    I see a man

When the faucets leak and need repair
I know you will be there

    I'm thankful for you
    and all that you do
But I wish I could remember you

I only know where you used to live
    Before I came along
    You were broken hearted
You lost the woman that you loved
And the family that you started

    I look around this house
    I don't see you anywhere
    Where do you live?
You give me just a glimpse of love
    Then you go away
Too little joy, so much sorrow
    Yesterday stold you from tomorrow

    Help me remember you
Too little joy, so much sorrow
    Behind closed doors
I saved my tears for tomorrow

Shake the dust off your Bible
And ask the Lord up above
To show you how to love me

I did the best I could
To make this house a home
    After all these years
I still go to sleep alone
I've cleaned this house for hours
But you never bring me flowers

    I taught the children well
About the path that leads to hell
    And even though they strayed
    I'm the one that prayed

So shake the dust off your Bible
And ask the Lord up above
To show you how to love me

    I really don't remember you
But over the years I've listened hard
    To things you never say
I chose to love you anyway
Shake the dust off your Bible
    It's your time to pray

Even though I love you still
So little joy, too much sorrow
    I've lost the will
    To live for tomorrow

I never feel passion on your lips
When I give you a kiss
So little joy, too much sorrow
    Will you miss me tomorrow?

You never wake me in the night because you need me
We never dined by candlelight for an evening
I never see desire in your eyes
You never wake me in the morning to watch the sunrise

    All I do is fantasize
I wish I could see me in your eyes
Today I dream of someone else
    To take your place
Without you I can't win this race
So little joy, too much sorrow
    Will you love me tomorrow?

Shake the dust off your Bible
And ask the Lord up above
To show you how to love me

All my life I want to be your wife
    You've been so blind
So little joy, too much sorrow

Love like mine is hard to find tomorrow

The storms of life have beaten down this home
    I can't rebuild it alone
So little joy, too much sorrow
All these years I lived for tomorrow

Shake the dust off your Bible
    Say a prayer for me
Truth is . . . you live where you want to be

So little joy, too much sorrow
    I cried for you tomorrow
    Yes . . . tomorrow I cried for you
    I even died for you . . .

A lot of sacrifice and little reward, sounds problematic. Still a very nice poem, and the Lord does show us how to love. We should all shake off the dust from our Bibles to learn how.

Poetry is when an emotion has found its thought and the thought has found words.

    Robert Frost (1875-1963) American Poet.
