    Loves invitation

My memory won't let me own you
    I can't leave you there
    Especially since I promised
You would be safe in my care
    You're once in a lifetime
I still see you on that stage
I still you breaking out of that cage
Like a knight in shining armor
    That is what I saw
My eyes could only behold you
    in awe
Your voice was so powerful and true
    A fantasy, now reality
    Has come to my rescue
Your eyes were so wanting and true
I just want to thank you
    for trusting me with you

We were both in search of true love
I guess the past got in the way
I saw no trace of true love
    in your yesterday
    I said promise me forever
if I fall in love with you
    When you couldn't do that
I knew I was not safe with you

    I couldn't move
    I couldn't speak
    I took my trust
    Ran away to hide
    I felt so much safer
    here inside

Then like a flash of lightning
    you put your armour on
And you walked right out that door
I knew you didn't want me anymore
Just like a hero that disappeared
    Exactly what I feared

When your presence left that room
I felt abandoned in my doom
Fantasy came swiftly to nurse my wound
Fantasy came swiftly to save me from the fall
When reality revealed this wasn't true love afterall

    When I left that room
    And I closed its door
I wasn't sure I would be coming back here anymore
But I knew I would have no closure
    Like all the women before
    I gave myself some time
    To really think it through
Then I decided to come back to rescue you

I'm dancing on this stage now
Begging you to turn this page
I don't want you searching anymore
    Walk back through that door
    Like you've never done before
    Turn back on that light
Because true love takes a fight

Love has a magic all its own
But I won't enter it alone
There is no victory in vengence
    My past can testify
    It only corrupts love
    and forces it to die
I am not the author of love
    But I've learned its mystery
I know how to keep true love
    from just passing into history
True loves takes two to become one
Without eachother you will always be undone

Love has only one direction once you enter it
    --To grow deeper
You must commit to being each others keeper
Without trust it just stands still, it has no place to go
But it still remains there alive in your soul
And when the business of life begins to blind your site
Wedges invade the oneness just like a thief in the night
The two that were once one need to work together to remove them
To become one again and make things right

True love does not chose to die
It is only forced to die
When we become unsatisfied by each other
Once conceived it is meant to live forever

If I enter into love with you
    Will you promise me forever?
True love doesn't see eachothers faults
When they appear . . . return them to their vaults
I cannot allow myself to become a victim of your youth
I hope this doesn't offend you
I'm just showing you the truth

    I am not disposable
I cannot be just an experience
True love is not just something we should expect to happen to us
True love is a choice you make to protect
You will never find true love
    Until you become true love

    Love is powerful indeed
    Something we all need
But never enter it in greed

I can still feel the magic
    Of love
that was alive in that room
The power that surrounded us when we became one
I did not put you in a trance
I showed you true love at a glance

    When the newness wears off
And it's time to run the race
    Will your love grow weary
    When we reach that place?

I don't want to lose you
    I can't lie
    But I can't surrender to a love
That would only choose to die

I'm getting off this stage now
Hoping I will be your last dance
    No matter what the outcome
I hope we weren't eachothers last chance
    in finding true love . . .

Love has no end it only begins. When one does not see love life moves on to the one that will truly be.

I like the way this poem tells a story with so many memorable lines. It is quite lengthy though and I wonder if the reader might get lost in it all. Still a good read for me.

Great poem.I can relate and like it very much.

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
