Shadow of His wings

Shadow of His wings

The world can be a frightening place

So I stay inside where it is safe

We all become like a child when times get hard

We whine, complain, and cry only wishing for someone to lean on

But I have found that place that blessed strong arm

“It is I.” he says “I am here, your God, your Lord”

Where will I stay? Where will I go?

I flee to the shadow of his wings

There’s no other place I know

Who will protect me? When will this end?

I flee to the shadow of his wings, flee to the shadow again.

The shadow, shadow of his wings

I’m lost; I’m so lost where am I?

Where’s that familiar shadow of the Most High?

I need him; I beg him please come find me

Because this is not the place I wish to be

I run, I duck, and I crawl till I start panicking

I look up towards the sky and cry “Where are you, my King?”

Death surrounds me while violence tries to take me

I see His Light and run to it, to his shadow I flee

Where will I stay? Where will I go?

I flee to the shadow of his wings

There’s no other place I know

Who will watch over me? When will it end?

I stay in the shadow of his wings, flee to the shadow again.

The shadow, shadow of his wings

There’s no way, no way I will leave where I am

He replies “Why are you being so stubborn, dear woman?”

Yet we say “No, I cannot do it, I love what I do”

But he says “Well if you change your mind I’ll always be here to come to”

Then we call “Lord, Lord don’t go yet, are you still there?”

He replies “I never left you nor forsook you, Yes, I’m still here”

“Am I ready? Am I worthy of such wholesome love?”

But he smiles and says “Come my child,” and welcomes me with open arms

Where will I stay? Where will I go?

I flee to the shadow of his wings

There’s no other place I know

Who will protect me? When will this end?

I stay in the shadow of his wings, flee to the shadow again.

The shadow, shadow of his wings

When the world fades away and the war continues on

He will be my protector and guider even as he hands me my sword

I will wait for his call and I will make sure I’m ready

Into the battle I go while he walks close beside me

What shall I fear if the world hates me?

Nothing because the Lord is more powerful than any being

What shall I do if darkness comes my way?

I stand strong, hold up my sword, never lose my brave.

When the battle of life has ended

I will return with him to our home

Walking in the shadow of his wings where I belong
