Self-destruct

Self-destruct

It is evident what is reality
But she chooses to ignore
She feels safe in her own world
Yet alas this will be her destruction

She must shed her false perceptions
They are the tools that keep her sane
However as each moment passes
The truth prevails, she is vulnerable

This reality check has not deterred her
She continues on her misguided way
What puzzles most is that she knows better
Still she forges onward to misery

Only she alone can evade this tragedy
Will she have the courage to fight?
All is known is that this is a must
She must not, will not self-destruct

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.

John F. Kennedy (1917-1963) Thirty-fifth President of the USA
