Saturday

As she sat across the table, from her daughter and son.  She knew at that moment a new life had begun.  Not one of hope, only despair.  From the horrible things she’d done that put her in that chair.

Her children’s faces filled with happiness and fear, they knew their mom would be gone for several years.  They tried to enjoy their time, but it lurked inside the room.  That visiting hours were over they’d have to be leaving soon.

As they walked around the table, she gave them a great big hug; she gave them each some kisses that were filled with love.  She told them that she love them and she always care, in the wave of a hand she was no longer there.

She doesn’t know if they were saddened, if they started to cry.  She only knows that she misses them and hates to say goodbye.  Ninety minutes wasn’t enough time to talk about their week and what was on their minds.  Even with their letters it still wasn’t enough, it was breaking down her exterior, and she was no longer tough.

Back in her cell, she held their pictures in her hand.  She prayed to her Lord and Savior to help her understand.  To help her go straight, follow only his way.  To make her look forward to more than just Saturdays.
