    sad song

so you can just pack up and leave
    like it's nothing?
    like it's nothing
    it is nothing
    nothing at all
    now
how can you turn without blinking an eye
    and watch my tears fall?
    and fall and fall
    there is no end
    there's nothing at all
    how long did I really
    think it would last?
    what is happening now
    is now in the past
and I can scream and weep and stomp my feet
    to no avail
    because your gone
    now
    maybe you can hand me
    my heart back
if it's not too much trouble
    for you see
    I need that
    to breathe
    and continue on
    like it's nothing at all
    walk on
    just walk away
    turn your back on me
    walk on
    just walk away now
    turn your back on me

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
