"Why don't they listen" By Carolyn Young

Our children are our greatest gift.
    Because they are from god.
They are loved, adored, and praised.

We tried to raise them the best way we could.
Making sure that they have a roof over their heads,
enough clothes to put on their backs.
and enough food to be put in their mouths,
so that they won't to starve!
and a warmth bed to sleep in.
kisses and hugs as they grow.
    wasn't that enough!

    So, why don't they listen.

We try to warn them of the hypocrisy,
    of this worldly system
    that we all live in.

We try to instill in them,
    faith,
so that their path will be made,
    straight.

We try to instill in them
    love,
so that they will not hate.
We try to instill in them
    truths,
so that they would not lie.

    So why don't they listen!

It is a hurting thing to see ones own child,
    falls asleep in death,
    because of their own mistakes.

like hanging out with the wrong crowd,
    like making the wrong choices,
like not coming to us, their parent,
because we are the ones that they should trust!

    We raised them,
    didn't we.!
    So why don't they listen!

They think we are too old fashion,
    and don't know too much,
but we have been there, done that!

    We know what we ourselves,
    have been through.

    Even though things
are seen in a different light,
or changed in a different way.
They still have the same meaning.
    Actually,
    nothing has really changed.
It is the same thing repeating itself,
    over and over again.

    So why don't they listen!

We have been trying to raise,
    our own children,
so that they don't fall into the
    temptation of this world,
    or its traps.

We pray that they make it,
We pray that they won't forget
what we ourseleves had instilled in them.

    We all love our children,
like the bright shinning light of the sun,
we embrace them, spoil them, hug them,
love them, teach them, all the things we
taught them down to this day,

Let us not have to keep grieving,
    worry or dread.

    but we do!
that is a part of life that will never change.

    But the change,
    we do want to see,
    is that they do listen!

    Listen intensively!

This is for you my daughter,
this is for you my son.

Have you and my mother been corresponding behind my back? Ha ha To hear her tell it it was possessed by the devil for the first 18 years of my life, but when I joined the army, all of a sudden I was the second coming ha ha! Just kidding, perhaps I exaggerate a bit, but I'm sure all mothers will get on board with your feelings here. Nicely done.

Carolyn...These are questions ive ask myself looking in the mirror coming from a loving mother... The funny thing about it is that we are listening its just at times we choose to listen to everything else as well... Beautiful work.. not only will i try to listen i will intensively

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
