    "WHen I Arise"

    "When I Arise"
    By
    Jack R. Dowdy

When I arise before the dawn,
My mind will drift to thoughts of you.
And i am awed how you were drawn,
Unto a wretch like me, 'tis true.
For when you met me I was not,
But half the man I am inside.
Your love and beauty my heart caught,
And I'm complete here by your side.
And as the glorious dawn does break,
Like a wave upon our terrestrial shore,
I recollect past days and take
A breath and only long for more.
I desire not but one more kiss,
Whilst I gaze on toward tomorrow.
    One more dawn to reminisce
Just one path we both shall follow.
And as the sunrise lights the heavens,
    with amber luminescence shown,
The light residing in you eyes,
I'm blessed and privileged to know.
When i arise before the dawn,
My mind will drift to thoughts of you.
It is a blessing beyond words,
    to spend eternity with you.

Poetry is not a turning loose of emotion, but an escape from emotion.
