Poetry Saved Me
Poetry saved me
Or at least so it seems
Words and expressions
From some inner stream
That runs so deep inside of me
I touch all the places
That before were unseen
And wanting to find the stories to tell
Of the many voices that inward dwell
It’s bounty now, a life undreamed
Of feeling in touch
With all those who breathe
And share this world
That I’ve come to love
Whether below or whither above
It’s all the same, just grist for the mill
Life goes forth and does what it will
But now my senses are tuned and refined
I feel the joy, the pain, the sublime
That comes with every passing day
I want to lean into instead of away
So now in this moment, fully alive
It’s poetry’s saved me, I finally arrived
