Pleasantry Exchange

A catalyst for washed over emotion

drummed up impressions of orphan dialogue

simplify earnest detachment

Elastic in resistance

I watched you do you for you until I felt it

closing my eyes upon consumption

The sun breaks the still of a transitioned sky

as if God lifted his drowsy eyelids

to supply the flowers with rays

I was in love with a love that loved like love should

you spoke to me in the sweetest voice

I could taste your tone

As pristine as I was defiled

our moment in closing distance and space

elapsed and I watched you blossom

I could literally feel your scent

as it weighed heavily on my person

comforting my pen

You are divinity and I thought of you religiously

praying that I would get it

hoping that you never pinched me but you did

Days added up to weeks that satisfied months

yet you are who you were

as I watch you do you for you

Each closed door is symbolic, I flinch each time

anticipating the worse

knowing just how precious you are

What I would not do to feel you

or just kiss you like it was my dying wish

and that wish is for me to be missed

I sit back and watch you do for you

but I just want you to know

that in the midst I am doing me for you too

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
