    Ode to an Era

From love beads to power drinks
The Woodstock nation provided the links
For all to embrace the ideals of a world
    Where peace and love unfurl
The pains of prejudice and war
We felt down to our very core

    Someone had to do something
About the state of our society
    Rife with fear and impropriety
Hope, love, and peace became commodities
    That evolved into our mores
In life today, it's still the right way

    Hope, Love, Peace

Poetry is not an expression of the party line. It's that time of night, lying in bed, thinking what you really think, making the private world public, that's what the poet does.

    Allen Ginsberg (1926-1997) U.S. poet.
