My Sad Adieu...I Will Truly Miss You

Poem Commentary

I heard today of an old friends passing, and what makes it sadder, seems lately that is not strange...They drop like flies...and at times I am still surprised to be alive, because we traveled many of the same roads...Here's to you old friend...To new beginning...not an end.

My Sad Adieu...I Will Truly Miss You

I am a dinosaur and another passed today...
that knew my many dark secrets and also liked to play...
back in the day with fire. He had to get higher and higher...
and then he had to get clean...too late...He has passed away...
Life is mean!

We had a lot of good times and shared a lot of life...
stormed through loves rebellion...
when my man left town with his wife...
and weren't we quite the couple...temporarily...
and once out hearts finally cooled off...both set ourselves free...

Free to live and love again...suck the marrow from a life...
where we were falling in...and out of some crazy illness, they say...
that had us doing crazy things...through it all we stayed connected
while having our lives dissected...and finally getting treated....
amen...the beast is defeated...so tell me...what has been gained?

Strange to see my world get smaller...another one bites the dust...
At the end we became friendly strangers...with memories of what was.
As for me, my world is better, but few escape alive...
or so it seems as I hear of his passing...
on this sad, hot and sultry night.

Before I clicked on this poem two words came to mind. Genesis meaning Beginning and Exodus meaning Exit. The beginnining and end of life. Thanks for writing the piece for me. 0

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
