Momentary Elegance
I've talked a lot about sunsets,And watched a lot too.
To be honest, it's hard to watch them
Without thinking of you.
I've thought about the fact that
I wrote: "The sun set."
(Now I think it makes me sound like a puppet of clichés,
A marionette.)
But if at one point there was a sun
That was slowly going away,
That also means there was a flash of beauty,
If only for a bit to stay.
I have many poems like this one,
Reflecting on momentary elegance.
I think it's my way of trying to
Justify God (in all His endless benevolence),
Or justify myself and
My own actions.
I don't know why I find this necessary
As I hope you know I had nothing but the best intentions.
(Now I've even challenged myself to make it rhyme,
Which ties it back to you as I do most every time.)
