    Legend of the Starfish

    God created man on earth
and put creatures in the sea.
He put many stars in the sky,
for man to gaze on romantically.

It seemed to Him to be unfair
to the creatures of the sea,
so He took some stars and threw them in
To give them their own astrology.

As I watch God's plan unfold
    it seems obvious to me,
That God had a purpose for everything
even creatures of the sea and
that is how the starfish came to be.

When power leads man towards arrogance, poetry reminds him of his limitations. When power narrows the area of man's concern, poetry reminds him of the richness and diversity of existence. When power corrupts, poetry cleanses.
