Innocence Lost
Elegant noose and elegant wine,
Checkered past leaves something to hide,
Reflection of pain contaminates thoughts,
Withered rose seeks heart to unlock,
An innocent virgin, a human impaired,
One could contest that nothing was spared,
Shadows of dreams imitate death,
Smile on her face long ago left,
Sunset beckons an early demise,
Rejection stares you dead in the eyes,
Spiritual calling from far away places,
Lonely nights verses warm embraces,
Candles flicker as darkness retracts,
Sliver of hope whispers intact,
Fraction of what you once held firm,
Lesson from life’s perpetual burn.
Checkered past leaves something to hide,
Reflection of pain contaminates thoughts,
Withered rose seeks heart to unlock,
An innocent virgin, a human impaired,
One could contest that nothing was spared,
Shadows of dreams imitate death,
Smile on her face long ago left,
Sunset beckons an early demise,
Rejection stares you dead in the eyes,
Spiritual calling from far away places,
Lonely nights verses warm embraces,
Candles flicker as darkness retracts,
Sliver of hope whispers intact,
Fraction of what you once held firm,
Lesson from life’s perpetual burn.
