I Dream the Dream
I dream the dream of you each night
I wonder at your gentle soul
The brightness of your inner light
Of how you made me whole
All too soon the dream is lost
I awaken now to such pain
The dream came at such a cost
A love I’d die to feel again
To have that moment return to me
To feel that touch, that warm caress
Oh how does one ever begin to see?
A loss too complete to assess
Why must this dream so end?
What guilt what shame is the cause?
How could one not portend?
Such a complete and total loss
A lifetime spent searching in vain
For this dream and then again
It was once there but is no more
A lifetime never felt so poor
I wonder at your gentle soul
The brightness of your inner light
Of how you made me whole
All too soon the dream is lost
I awaken now to such pain
The dream came at such a cost
A love I’d die to feel again
To have that moment return to me
To feel that touch, that warm caress
Oh how does one ever begin to see?
A loss too complete to assess
Why must this dream so end?
What guilt what shame is the cause?
How could one not portend?
Such a complete and total loss
A lifetime spent searching in vain
For this dream and then again
It was once there but is no more
A lifetime never felt so poor
