A quick one
The light, the light, at last can I see the light?
An impossible dream or a scurrilous scheme
Do we stand and join the righteous fight
Or embrace at last the offered dream
One says go, one screams stop
None say wait, and none say think
Do I believe the one at the top?
Or the one that swears the ship is about to sink
My decision is one of unique clarity
With trepidation in every step I take
But to go my own way with alacrity
To think for myself, for my own sake
Why must we all act as sheep at slaughter?
What demands make us scurry to and fro?
To the sounds of the powerful man’s laughter
I suppose I will that task forego
An impossible dream or a scurrilous scheme
Do we stand and join the righteous fight
Or embrace at last the offered dream
One says go, one screams stop
None say wait, and none say think
Do I believe the one at the top?
Or the one that swears the ship is about to sink
My decision is one of unique clarity
With trepidation in every step I take
But to go my own way with alacrity
To think for myself, for my own sake
Why must we all act as sheep at slaughter?
What demands make us scurry to and fro?
To the sounds of the powerful man’s laughter
I suppose I will that task forego
