HOMELESSMAN / THE SAGA
I CAME UP ON A MAN ONE DAY,
AND I SAW HIS TREMBLING HANDS
HE LOOKED AT ME,ASKED FOR A DIME
HELD UP HIS EMPTY CAN
SEE NOW I JUST KEPT ON WALKING BY,
BUT HIS GAZE IT HELD MY EYES
IT WAS THEN I STARTED THINKING,
AND BEGAN TO REALIZE
THAT THOSE EYES OF HIS WERE MINE,
NOT SO LONG AGO
IT WAS WHEN MY WIFE OF TWENTY YEARS
SAID IT WAS TIME TO GO
THOUGH THE LONLINESS AND SADNESS
AND THE ANGER AND SORROW
I GOT SO LOST IN MY DRINKING
I COULDN'T FIND A TOMORROW
SO I TURNED AROUND WENT INTO THE STORE
I BOUGHT A COFFEE AND TWO BEERS
I SAT RIGHT DOWN NEXT TO THE MAN
I REACHED OVER AND SAID HERE
HE SAID NOW THANK YOU SON AND IF YOU DON'T MIND,
AS HE REACHED BEHIND HIS EAR
I SHOOK MY HEAD,HE LIT HIS SMOKE
HE REACHED OVER AND LIT MINE
HE SAID SON YOU MAY NOT KNOW OF ME
I'M JUST A USED TO BE
THEY SAID I'D BE A LEGEND
A FADING ECHO IN MY MEMORY
HE SAID NOW I'M A HOMELESS MAN
I JUST A USED TO BE
I'M A HOMELESS MAN AND I DRINK MY BEER,I GET DRUNK IN AGONY
HE SAID NOW I'M A HOMELESS MAN ,
BUT I USED TO BE THE KING
BUT FROM USING DRUGS AND DRINKING THIS,
SEE I LOST EVERYTHING
HE SAID NOW I'M A HOMELESSMAN
I'M JUST A USED TO BE
THEY SAID I'D BE A LEGEND,
A FADING ECHO IN MY MEMORY
HOMELESSMAN YEAH,HOMELESSMAN
HE SAID ME AND THAT GUITAR OF MINE
WE'VEBEEN THROUGH THIS WHOLE COUNTRY
FROM PHILADELPHIA TO L.A.
LAS VEGAS I HAVE SEEN
WELL DOWN IN TEXAS AND ALABAMA
WELL IN NEW YORK AND NEW ORLEANS
BUT IT WAS IN THE EARLY TIMES
I STARTED DRINKING EVERYDAY
I MET THAT GORGOUS LADY
I JUST NEW I WAS ON MY WAY
THOUGH THE BRIGHTLIGHTS N'THE CITIES
I'D FORGOTTEN HOW TO PRAY
I STARTED USING COCAINE
STICKING NEEDLES IN MY ARM
EVERYONE WAS DOING IT
I DID'NT SEE THE HARM
UNTIL ONE NIGHT THAT GAL SHE UP
AND DIED
THATS WHEN I LOST THE FIGHT
AND SOON FROM USING DRUGS AND DRINKING THIS
I LOST EVERYTHING IN SIGHT
HE SAID NOW I'M A HOMELESSMAN
JUST A USED TO BE
A HOMELESSMAN AND I DRINK MY BEER
I GET DRUNK IN AGONY
HE SAID I'M JUST A HOMELESSMAN
BUT I USED TO BE THE KING
BUT FROM USING DRUGS AND DRINKING THIS
SEE I LOST EVERYTHING
HE SAID NOW I'M A HOMELESSMAN
I'M JUST A USED TO BE
THEY SAID I'D BE A LEGEND
A FADING ECHO IN MEMORY
YEAH, HOMELESS MAN
NOW,NOW I'M JUST A HOMELESS MAN
I'M JUST A HOMELESS MAN
