Evolution #2

Evolution #2

I've heard we swam the ocean
As just a single cell
And then our cell got cancer
Which changed it very well.

We multiplied in number
But, yet, we swam as one
And then deformed our bodies
Until a fish was done.

But Nature wasn't satisfied,
It changed our fins and tail--
Mutation even changed our lungs--
For Land we then set sail.

And so on through the ages
We sometimes found it best
When we survived because we were
So different from the rest.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
