Damned was the First Man

Damned was the First Man

I know my soul is dead

For I am here

In hell

I know my soul is dead

For these words are bare

I know my soul is dead

For no one's warmth

For me they have to share

I know my soul is dead

For it never lived from the start

But Maybe it does live

Some place

For a tear

I now shed

At face value, this poem is quite painful. It is said, that a soul is an immaterial part of a living being. In my humble opinion, it is simply the consciousness and personality of a human being. I love the way you end the poem, since indeed, if a tear has been shed, your spirit/soul is alive, for it feels and longs redemption. This is a nicely conveyed dark poem. Great job.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
