    Bill's Widow

A knock came at her door
Two men stood in Class A's
Dark news came to be delivered
    She'd never forget this day

One gave her Bill's baseball cap
His favorite Braves, blue and red
The other handed her the family photo
Her husband kept by his bed

The first man said, "He adored the children
Thinking of christmases and all great times
The Truth is right at the end
You were the last thing on his mind"

Mrs. Brown, it was our honor to know Bill
    And he was proud
    We're sorry to inform you
Bill's plane has been shot down

    How sad.

To have great poets there must be great audiences too.
