As I Watched Christmas Videos Alone
As I Watched Christmas Videos Alone
Upon the step I hear the falling patter
Hushed voices of widening eyes
The rustle of paper, an accidental thump
Muted gleeful shouts Look! Look!
The late night work of this weary elf
Has paid great dividends, shown it's worth
Through the night with scattered tools
For to build these daylight jewels
I and her 'neath a tree
Reading the way, trying patiently
The last toy assembled, off to bed
To sleep, oh to sleep Oh my head
Then all at once there rose such a clatter
No alarm, the kids that was the matter
Excited all night, none have slept
So why now, oh what the heck
We rise and smile and rush to the spot
So smiling children can show what they got
Laughter and cheer amid a sea of paper
I see it now, it's a little later
These images I see now years on past
In those days I thought would last
But these ones are gone all so fast
And she smiles from then years on past
Older and lonely for these gone days
My boys have grown and will soon go away
And she, that mother, has her reward
As I watch Christmas videos, alone...
As I Watched Christmas Videos Alone
