A North Andover Factory
A North Andover Factoryreflecting on the Osgood Mills
A factory yard restored for the comfort of modern folks
Who pass this place with little thought
Of those who worked and lived in the age before,
When steam was king
The sun rises amid silent towers
Of brick and mortar, of wood and iron
Built during an earlier, near forgotten time,
When steam was king
I see her in faded light running
Running to make the bell and spin the yarn
This last-century beauty condemned to toil.
When steam was king
Factory floors stained by the passing
Of countless thousands that went before
About their daily world of smoke and sweat,
When steam was king
Made immortal in these places, amid the stacks
Blood stained brick and sweat soaked wood
Restored for our use in the new century
Old sounds still resonate
