Another Day

ANOTHER DAY
by
Eva Mae Smith

When the rooster starts his morning warm-ups,
Those nocturnal know dawn nears.
The daylight creeps across the horizon,
Pushes back darkness, calms all fears.

The night creatures cling to shadows,
Hiding in holes, cowering in caves.
Sleeping thru the hours of daylight,
Waiting patiently for the night.

Men who do their deeds in secret,
Embrace the darkness, avoid the dawn.
Hiding all their tho’ts from others,
Cautiously confide in no one.

The evil doers prey on ignorance.
Lying, cheating, stealing souls.
Gloating over sins committed, and
The righteous they’ve outwitted.

But the night won’t last forever.
In its time the dawn will come.
Those who revel in the darkness,
Will someday have to face The Son.

In science one tries to tell people, in such a way as to be understood by everyone, something that no one ever knew before. But in poetry, it's the exact opposite.

Franz Kafka (1883-1924) Czech writer.
