    Poem Commentary

In Israel, women kept expensive perfume in these jars called alabaster boxes; however, they were usually kept for their wedding. I want to give credit to the Book of Luke in the New Testament.

    An Alabaster Box

An alabaster box is what I will bring to pour upon your feet
It is the only way that I know how to show you of my love when we meet,
    When we meet.

This is a story of two women whose debts they could not repay,
Yeshua gazed upon them with eyes that were soft and clear,
Saying “Who loves the most?” yes, I heard Him say that day.

An alabaster box is what I will bring to pour upon your feet
It is the only way that I know how to show you of my love when we meet,
    When we meet.

As the women looked at each other
The eyes of one began to weep,
Tears falling like raindrops off her face
    Not one did she keep.
"Lord" she said, "so many sins have I,
    What will you think?"

An alabaster box is what I will bring to pour upon your feet
It is the only way that I know how to show you of my love when we meet,
    When we meet.

The Lord with love in His eyes gathered both women to His side,
"The one that is forgiven much is the one that will love the most until she dies."

Poetry is finer and more philosophical than history; for poetry expresses the universal, and history only the particular.
