Poem Commentary

This is about hardened hearts and pained souls when they have been hurt by love too many times. But, hey, we all go back for more! :)

Against The Grain

I cannot hold on to the past
Move forward in the future
Take a chance-believe
To myself-inside-be true

Trust in someone
 as you
Should fly within me
On a breeze of faith

Truth must absorb the grain
The wooden surface of my heart
Aged and bruised with time
Barren as fallen bark

Whispers of meaning
Should hush the doubt
Shout to reality
That time sooths the wounds

Your love was my love
One glimmer of chance
Turned to rain in the night
Where now - I dance

The salt of my tears
Sting and heal wounds
Buried in my heart
Where once they bled

Another mark
Left on my indigo heart
Drops tears on my soul
   to nourish its parched surface
